June 17, 2013MITCH MCGRATH MOPS UP ON WILMOT BMT FOES

(NEOSHO DRIVER WINS FOURTH CAREER BMT MAIN)

(Wilmot, WI) June 16 –  Neosho’s Mitch McGrath survived a race long, back-and-forth tussle with Beaver Dam’s Craig Priewe and dodged a handful of cautions to win the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Gandrud Chevrolet race at Wilmot Raceway Sunday.

A total of 53 BMT modifieds checked in to compete at Wilmot.

McGrath, who started on the outside front row, sped away with Priewe in the early laps and traded the lead lap after lap, with Priewe protecting the bottom line and McGrath hammer down on top.  A lap nine caution bunched up the field.  On the restart, the duo of McGrath and Priewe would pick up where it left off and distance themselves from the field.

A heated battle for third ensued for much of the night, as Green Bay drivers Eric Van Iten and Benji LaCrosse along with defending BMT champion Brian Mullen, all battled hard with Van Iten breaking away to take command of the third spot late in the race following a string of mid-race yellows.

With a late caution and a handful of laps remaining, heavy smoke shot out of Priewe’s racer just prior to the white flag being displayed.  McGrath scooted by to take the lead.  McGrath would go on to score his fourth career BMT main.  Van Iten came up just shy of nabbing a runnerup spot, catching Priewe’s slowing race car at the checkers, and nabbing his first podium finish.  BMT Vlies Custom Bodies/Victory sign rookie candidate Brad Lautenbach, the only BMT rookie to make the show, sliced his way through the field of veterans to score fourth.    Defending race winner Lance Arneson of Oconto Falls rounded out the top five finishers.

Former track champion Chris Carlson of Union Grove earned the Wild Inc. hard charger award, storming through the pack from 19th to finish 7th.

Green Bay’s Eric Mahlik became the first BMT driver to win Gandrud Crate cash.  Mahlik scored a 10th place with his GM 604 crate powerplant under the hood, and earned an extra $200.

Eagle River’s Jimmy Zdroik earned the Fusion Enterprises Long Haul award, towing more than 6 and a half hours to compete.

The next event on the BMT slate will be the $10,000-to-win Clash at Creek V at 141 Speedway June 26-27.  On Wednesday night the top six BMT points drivers following the Wilmot show will race in 6-for-6 dash at 141 on June 26 to determine who will earn the BMT provisional into the big show.

May 26, 2013LACROSSE LEADS WIRE-TO-WIRE IN SHAWANO SPEEDWAY BADGER MOD TOUR LID LIFTER

GREEN BAY DRIVER POCKETS $1,925 IN THE WIN)

(Shawano, WI) May 25 –Green Bay’s Benji LaCrosse led every lap and sweated out five caution flags to capture the series opener for the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Gandrud Chevrolet at Shawano Speedway Saturday. In the process LaCrosse pocketed $1,925 with the lap leader and halfway bonus money.

LaCrosse outraced polesitter and current Shawano points leader Jerry Wilinski of Seymour to take the lead. LaCrosse kept the top spot through several caution periods, one of which flew late in the race for Wausau’s Marcus Yarie, who was battling with BMT defending champion Brian Mullen for fourth. Yarie’s car hit a tractor tire and bent a tie rod on his racer, ending his night.

LaCrosse picked up where he left off on each restart, and sped away to a comfortable cushion to capture his second career BMT feature win. “I was a little bit worried on the restarts just because the field of cars is so tough here,” said LaCrosse. “You get into a rhythm and those cautions can throw you off a bit.”

Wilinski held on to second place in his first BMT start, and wound up as the highest finishing Shawano Speedway regular. Mullen wound up in third, after Pulaski’s Jason Czarapata lost a driveshaft while challenging Wilinski for the runnerup spot.

A total of 55 BMT modifieds checked in to compete in the Tour’s season opener.

The Tour’s second stop comes to Wilmot Raceway Sunday, June 16. The show will run with the UMP Summernationals HellTour. Oconto Falls Lance Arneson is the defending race winner.

October 6, 2012BRIAN MULLEN CHARGES FROM DEAD LAST TO CAPTURE 141 SPEEDWAY BADGER MODIFIED TOUR FEATURE

By Chris Janda

(Seymour veteran captures inaugural Badger Mod Tour crown)

(Francis Creek, WI) October 5 –Driving a brand new race car, Seymour’s Brian Mullen won both the battle and the war at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday night. Mullen started dead last and sliced his way through the field, passing Two Rivers Kyle Kudick with eight laps to go and won the Badger Mod Tour feature on night #1 of the Northern Concrete Creek Classic at 141 Speedway Friday night.

In doing so, Mullen also captured the first ever Badger Mod Tour championship. Coming into the final night Mullen held a 4 point lead over Neosho’s Mitch McGrath. After the heats, both drivers were dead even with 456 points going into the feature event. McGrath started 20th in the feature and Mullen started dead last, forced to take a Tour points provisional.

“We constantly were chasing this car all night, and we made some pretty major adjustments after the heat and again after the consi,” said Mullen. “There was a tough field of 61 modifieds here tonight, and we’re real happy to come out on top.”

Denmark’s Tim Czarneski blasted past Kudick for second with three laps to go and finish second, earning his first ever BMT podium finish. Kudick did the same taking third. McGrath also had a solid run, charging from his 20th position to take fourth, and wound up second in the BMT point standings.

A total of 291 cars checked in to compete on the first night of the event . The field included 61 BMT modifieds, 31 Brian Peterson Grand Nationals, 44 stock cars, 57 street stocks, 37 sportmods, 14 hobby stocks, 8-600 micro sprints and 40 sport fours.

August 23, 2012LACROSSE SNAPS MCGRATH’S STREAK, WINS MANITOWOC BADGER MOD TOUR GO

by Ed Anschutz and Joe Verdegan

(Lacrosse wins from 8th in BMT’s second straight caution free feature)

(Beaver Dam, WI) August 23 — Green Bay’s Benji LaCrosse put an end to Mitch McGrath recent dominance in the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour feature presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services. LaCrosse passed race leader Marcus Yarie of Wausau for the lead on lap 22 and went on the win the 30 lap A main at Manitowoc County Expo Speedway. The contest went green to checkered for the second straight BMT event.

A total of 36 BMT modifieds checked in to compete, along with 26 street stocks for the mid week special.

Beaver Dam’s Craig Priewe outdueled fellow front row starter Yarie into the lead at the drop of starter Dave Deprey’s green flag. The pair raced toe-to-toe for the first four laps until Priewe broke away to take command on lap four. Yarie caught up with Priewe by lap 10 and the pair swapped the lead for the next several laps. Meanwhile LaCrosse methodically worked his way up from his eight starting spot into fifth, and began reeling in the 3rd and 4th place cars of the father-son duo of Brian and Mike Mullen of Seymour, respectively.

With 11 laps to go LaCrosse rode the high line around Mike Mullen for 4th and knocked off Brian Mullen the next round for 3rd. One lap later Priewe became the former IMCA national champ’s next victim and assumed the lead for good on lap 22 with an outside pass of Yarie. LaCrosse went the balance of the way sifting through lapped cars to pick off the win. “I told you I’d win one of these things!” said LaCrosse, who had two prior 2nd place finishes in BMT competition. “When they watered the track in the heat races, a lot of us were shaking our heads in the pits. The track turned out to be awesome tonight.”

Brian Mullen wound up second in his third podium finish of the year, with Priewe taking third in his 2nd podium finish of the year. Yarie wound up fourth with Mike Mullen rounding out the top five. Mitch McGrath, who had won the prior BMT events, stormed through the field from 14th to 6th, earning him the Wild Inc. hard charger award.

Sturgeon Bay’s Von Eytcheson picked up a $500 pay day winning the Street Stocks.

Fresh off a heat race win Ronnie Mink paced the field leading the first 6 laps before Kyle Reidner took his machine to the high side and took over the lead. Mink fought back taking the top spot as the caution flew on lap 8. Von Eytcheson used this to his advantage making a 3 wide pass on Mink and Reidner for the lead. Eytcheson kept his competitors and bay and cruised to the win, second for Mink, third Joe Schwister, Reidner was fourth and Mark Baker rounded out the top five.

The Tour’s season finale will be Friday night, October 5 during night #1 of the 141 Speedway Fall Classic, located in Francis Creek, WI. For more information check 141speedway.com.

August 21, 2012MCGRATH SCORES HAT TRICK WITH THIRD STRAIGHT BADGER MOD TOUR WIN

by Joe Verdegan

(“Neosho Nightmare fends off Benji LaCrosse in caution free event)

(Beaver Dam, WI) August 21 – Neosho’s Mitch McGrath continued his domination of the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services at Oshkosh Speedzone Tuesday night.  The Neosho Nightmare” passed Luxemburg native Benji LaCrosse for the lead on lap 14 and carefully sifted his way through lapped cars to collect the win in an event which went green to checkered.

When the green flag dropped it appeared in the early going that LaCrosse would collect his first BMT win.  LaCrosse outgunned front row starter Marcus Yarie of Wausau and quickly built himself up a comfortable 10 car length lead over the field.  McGrath, who started fourth, moved to third and by lap eight slipped into second and began chopping away at LaCrosse’s lead.

LaCrosse, a former IMCA national champion, began coming up on lapped cars by lap 12.  That allowed McGrath to close the gap within a couple of car lengths.  As the pair came down the frontstretch McGrath ducked underneath a pair of lapped cars, using them as a “pick” of sorts and taking the lead from LaCrosse.  During the caution free contest LaCrosse kept McGrath within striking distance, pulling door-to-door on more than one occasion with McGrath, trying different lines around the smooth, 3/8 mile clay oval.  LaCrosse came up short as McGrath scored his third straight win, pocketing $1,200.  “I was actually surprised a bit Benji didn’t slide down the bottom when we came upon those lapped cars,” said McGrath in victory lane.  “Benji’s one of the best in this business, and I appreciate him running me clean there at the end.  When you beat LaCrosse, that says a lot.”

LaCrosse hung on for second place, his second podium finish in BMT competition.   “We came up a bit short, but the car is in one piece and I’m happy with that,” said LaCrosse.  “I haven’t run here at all this year, so we’re happy with a second here.”   McGrath’s dad Joe McGrath also scored his third podium finish with a third.  Luxemburg’s Jared Siefert won the Wild Inc. Hard charger award, charging from his 17th starting spot to finish fifth.

A total of 46 BMT modifieds checked in to compete.

The Tour’s next stop comes to the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway Thursday, August 23.  The BMT will share the bill with street stocks.  Adult admission is only $10 and that includes your admission to the Manitowoc County Fair, including unlimited carnival rides.  Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.

July 29, 2012MCGRATH LEADS WIRE-TO-WIRE IN BADGER MOD TOUR MAIN AT BEAVER DAM RACEWAY

by Joe Verdegan

(Beaver Dam, WI) July 29– The “Neosho Nightmare” lived up to his nickname for his Badger Mod Tour competitors Saturday night. Mitch McGrath shot out from his front row starting spot and led every lap en route to victory in the A main for the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services at Beaver Dam Raceway Sunday night.

The win was the second straight BMT win for McGrath, who just nine days earlier pulled off the same fete at a track just a mile or so up the road at the Dodge County Fairgrounds.

The race itself almost looked like déjà vu in the early going, as second row starter Tim Lemirande of Middleton broke loose from the pack into second by lap seven. That exact same scenario took place at Dodge County the week prior. McGrath began coming up on lapped cars on the high-banked, third-mile, clay oval as early as lap 7.

Juneau’s Russ Reinwald caught up with Lemirande by lap ten and the pair swapped the runnerup spot. Meanwhile by lap 17 Seymour ace Brian Mullen had sliced his way up from row four, wrestling the runnerup spot away from Reinwald by lap 20. A lap 22 caution flew for a four car melee which sent Antioch, Illinois’ Scott Kuxhouse and hometown driver Aaron Rake off on the hook.

With a three lap sprint to the finish Mitch’s dad Joe McGrath hugged the bottom, with Mullen running inches from the concrete wall. The elder McGrath hung on to take second at the checkers. Mullen settled for third, in his second straight podium finish along with Mitch McGrath. Reinwald would hang on for fourth with hometown driver and former track champion Craig Priewe rounding out the top five finishers.

Local favorite Jeremy Christians of Horicon took home the Wild Inc. hard charger award. Christians took a series points provisional into the A main, and started 23rd and wound up 7th.

A total of 45 BMT modifieds checked in to compete in the event, which was a raindate from May 26.

The Tour’s next stop will be the wide, 3/8 mile clay oval at Oshkosh Speedzone on Tuesday, August 21. The BMT will share the bill with the W.D.L.M.A. late models and IMCA northern sportmods in an event sponsored by Mike Hansel Trucking with racing getting underway at 7 p.m. For more information on Oshkosh Speedzone you can check Oshkoshspeedzone.net or call (920) 426 1111. July 21, 2012MCGRATH LEADS WIRE-TO-WIRE IN DODGE COUNTY BADGER MOD TOUR GO

by Joe Verdegan

(Neosho driver earns win in caution free race)

(Beaver Dam, WI) July 20 – Neosho’s Mitch McGrath outraced fellow front row starter Craig Priewe of Beaver Dam into the lead at the drop of the green and cruised to victory in the 25 lap A main for the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services. The event went 25 laps without a caution.

A total of 39 BMT modifieds checked in to compete in the doubleheader with the IRA sprint cars.

McGrath quick built up a sizeable lead within the first four laps. by lap five Tim Lemirande had wrestled the runnerup spot away from Priewe, and began slowly tracking down McGrath.

McGrath caught up to lapped cars by the races midway point, which allowed Lemirande to close the gap. However Lemirande’s charge would come up short as McGrath won, becoming the third different BMT winner in as many races.

During a post race inspection Lemirande’s car was found not to be equipped with a rev limiter chip, which disqualified him and handed the runner spot to Priewe. Seymour veteran Brian Mullen placed third. “I love Dodge County and I love the Badger Mod Tour,” said McGrath. “We came close at Wilmot taking second to Tim Lemirande. We’ll be ready for the next one at Beaver Dam Raceway on July 29.”

Green Bay’s Benji LaCrosse took a hit on the BMT point standings. The Luxemburg native was 2nd in the series points heading into the night. Mechanical woes forced him to drop out of his heat race. LaCrosse was not able to answer the bell for the 25 lap feature, which then awarded the second points provisional to Juneau’s Russ Reinwald, who wound up 7th. Reinwald earned the Wild Incorporated hard charger award for his efforts.

The Tour’s fourth stop comes to Beaver Dam Raceway Sunday, July 29. This show is a raindate from the original date on Memorial Day weekend. 56 modifieds checked in to do battle before the rains came. The BMT will share the bill with IMCA style sportmods, grand nationals, street stocks and legends will compete. Racing gets underway at 4 p.m. Check wismotorsports.net for more information.

(Brian Mullen cuts tire with two laps to go after leading most of the race)

(Beaver Dam, WI) June 27 – Middleton’s Tim Lemirande only led two laps, but they wound up being the most important ones. “The Beave” as he’s affectionately known hung on to capture the Clash @ The Creek IV presented by Budweiser for the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services.

The race wound up being a heartbreaker for defending race winner Brian Mullen of Seymour. Mullen, who drew the pole through an earlier roll of the die, led 38 laps. Mullen cut a tire after making contact with the wall with two laps to go. “I hated that that happened to Brian, for him to lose one like that,” said Lemirande, who pocketed $1,100 for the win. “I gotta give credit to Benji (LaCrosse). He could have roughed me up a bit but he didn’t. He ran me clean and I appreciate that.”

For Mullen it wasn’t all bad, as Mullen mopped up on $960 in lap leader money along the way, finishing 18th along the way. LaCrosse took second in his best performance at 141 Speedway. “I just can’t seem to get a win here,” said LaCrosse. “We had a good run, and our luck is improving out here.”

141′s weekly points leader Shawn Kilgore of New Franken wound up taking third. Defending track champion Sean Jerovetz, who battled his way into the field via a B main win, scored fourth. Beaver Dam’s Aaron Rake netted his best tour finish with a fifth.

Seymour’s Mike Mullen won the Wild Inc. hard charger award, passing 15 cars from his 23rd starting spot to finish 8th.

A total of 141 cars showed up to compete. The field included 58 BMT modifieds, 30 IMCA northern sportmods, 27 Tisler Salvage street stocks and 26 stock cars.

Green Bay’s John Heinz took the lead from Kewaunee’s Luke Lemmens on lap four and cruised to victory in the 20 lap stock car feature. Arch rival Junior Karcz of Pulaski took second. Lemmens took third, followed by Luxemburg’s Tyler Smith, and Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger, who came out of a “semi retirement” battling his way into the main through a qualifying race and placing fifth.

Kewaunee’s Brian Bruechert hung on to the lead through a pair of caution periods to capture the IMCA northern sportmod feature win. Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz, Algoma’s Tyler Hackett, Suamico’s Josh Long and New Franken’s Mark Joski rounded out the top five finishers.

Green Bay’s Tony Everard passed Jeremy Hebel of Two Rivers for the lead on lap four, was passed by Brad Laurent of Manitowoc with four laps to go, and wound repassing Laurent for the lead with two laps to go to win the Tisler Salvage street stock feature. Laurent took second, followed by Two Rivers Dave Gauger Sr., Francis Creek’s Kraig Koehler and Oshkosh’s Jon Ashcroft, who stormed into fifth from his 20th starting spot.

The Tour’s third stop comes at “The Horsepower Half Mile” at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam Friday, July 20. The BMT will share the bill with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw sprint cars. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.

June 18, 2012“DANCIN LANCE” ARNESON TIP TOES TO BADGER MOD TOUR WILMOT WIN

(Beaver Dam, WI) June 17 — “Dancin’ Lance” Arneson of Oconto Falls had never been to Wilmot Raceway before in his life.

But the veteran modified driver turned his first trip to the paper-clip shaped, 3/8 mile a profitable one as he battled Neosho’s Mitch McGrath and Juneau’s Russ Reinwald in the final laps to capture the series opener for the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services at Wilmot Raceway Sunday night. He took home $1,000 for his efforts.

A total of 52 BMT modifieds checked in to compete in the Tour’s maiden voyage.

Neosho’s Joe McGrath, Mitch’s dad, paced the opening three rounds of the 30 lap contest while Arneson motored past McGrath on the high side for lead on lap four. Arneson kept the top spot through a pair of early caution periods and on a lap 10 restart Seymour’s father and son duo Mike and Brian Mullen joined the fray, hugging the bottom groove in the tight corners and taking turns swapping the lead.

Arneson would battle back on the high side, and the trio brought the capacity crowd to its feet as Arneson and the two Mullen’s all took turns swapping the lead. After a lap 16 restart Mitch McGrath, who started deep in the field 15th, stormed into the third spot and disposed of Brian Mullen and began chasing down Arneson, who had moved to the bottom groove to protect the lead. McGrath pulled door to door with Arneson on three occasions, even leading a lap, but Arneson hung on for the win. Mitch McGrath took second for his efforts, with Reinwald, Brian Mullen and Mike Mullen rounding out the top five finishers.

“That was more fun than I’ve had at a race track in a long time,” said Arneson. “McGrath raced me hard and clean. That’s what this Badger Mod Tour is all about. I can’t wait to chase for the championship. It’s the best of the best in Wisconsin.”

Earlier in the night Beaver Dam’s Matt Rechek and Horicon’s Jeremy Christians earned their way into the big show by winning B mains.

With his win Arneson has garnered the series points lead over Mitch McGrath and Reinwald with a four and one-half point lead.

The Tour’s second stop heads to 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Wednesday, June 27 for “Clash @ The Creek IV” presented by Budweiser & Larry’s Distributing. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. Check 141speedway.com for more information.
